Canada · substitute dance teachers
It’s four o’clock. The class is at six. Your teacher just called in sick.
Right now that means the group chat, the phone tree, and whoever answers first. StudioShift is the Canadian marketplace built to end it — one place where studios find a qualified substitute dance teacher, and teachers find the work.
It is not taking bookings yet. Dance season starts this week, which is exactly when teachers set their fall availability — so both sides are registering now, and booking switches on city by city as soon as a city has enough teachers for a class to actually get filled.
Where it stands
A city opens when it can actually fill a class.
Not on a date somebody picked. A two-sided marketplace that opens empty reads as broken to whoever arrives first, so booking stays off in a city until the supply is there to make the first booking succeed. These are the real numbers, updated live, and they exclude the sample profiles used for demos.
We have not set a launch date and we are not going to invent one. What we can tell you is exactly what has to be true first — and it is on the right.
Who has registered so far
Updated liveNobody has registered yet. That is the opportunity.
The first teachers on StudioShift in a city are the ones studios see the moment it opens, and the first studios set what the work pays. Register now and you are counted here.
Counts only while a city is in pre-register. Individual teacher profiles stay private until booking opens in that city — nobody gets browsed before anybody can be booked.
How pre-register works
- 1
Register your studio
Your address, programs, genres and age groups — and how often you actually need a class covered.
- 2
Your city fills up
Teachers near you register their rate, availability and screening. You see the count rise; you never see who, and neither does any other studio.
- 3
Your city opens
When there is enough supply for a posting to actually get filled, booking switches on and you post your first opening. We email you the day it happens.
Pricing
Free to join. One fee, shown before anyone pays.
Nothing is charged during pre-register. No money moves until booking opens in your city, and the fee below applies only from that point.
No subscription for studios. No listing fee for teachers. Posting, browsing, inviting, applying and messaging cost nothing.
When a short-term booking is paid on-platform, StudioShift adds a platform fee as a percentage of the class total, split equally between the studio and the teacher, on top of the card processing fee. Both sides see the exact dollars on the offer before accepting, and again on the booking before paying.
Part-time and full-time hires are agreed directly between you. No fee.
See the current fee and a worked exampleNobody is browsed before anybody can be booked
While a city is in pre-register, studios see counts — how many teachers, which genres — and never a name, photo or contact. Individual profiles unlock for a city when booking opens there.
Verified post-class ratings
Only the two parties to a completed booking can rate and report on each other. No drive-by reviews, no ratings from people who never booked.
Dates that actually lock
Accepting an offer books the date in one transaction. Two teachers cannot be booked for the same slot, and a booked teacher cannot be double-booked elsewhere.
Private until it's real
Addresses, door codes and briefings stay hidden until a booking is confirmed. Chat stays on-platform, with contact details kept out until then.
Register
Get your city on the map before the season does.
Free, nothing to cancel, and no card. Six honest answers — above all, how often you really need a sub. That single number decides what StudioShift can charge, and right now we are guessing.
I run a studio
Register the studio, say what you need covered and how often. You are on the record for your city before anyone else is, and you post the first opening the day it opens.
- · Your place in your city’s queue
- · An email the day booking opens where you are
- · No booking, no payment and no fee until then
I teach
Set your rate, genres, travel radius and weekly availability while the fall schedule is still being written. Teachers on StudioShift work as independent contractors and set their own rate.
- · A finished, bookable profile on day one
- · Counted in your city’s supply, never listed by name
- · Free, and nothing to cancel
Teachers set their fall availability in September and are much harder to reach in November. That is the whole reason this is open now.
